“First time Gun Buyers/Voters”

By all accounts the number of new guns sold is rising at a phenomenal rate. Every month since the pandemic started with a peak of 2.3 million sales in March has seen a new monthly record set with number of new NICS (National Instant Background Check System) checks reaching 1.6 Million in July.  Each NICS check can represent more than one sale so that number of actual firearms sales is likely higher when multiple purchases are taken into account.

One of the most intriguing numbers is the between 40% and 60% of the sales represent first time gun buyers. A number that is now estimated to be 5 Million new gun owners since the gun buying spree began.

While this represents a new interest in gun ownership that we have not seen before, we cannot be assured that this new buying interest will result in a tidal wave of pro-gun Second Amendment supporting voters.  Many of these people are interested in self defense only and are not particularly interesting in the overall gun rights aspect of ownership.

It has been reported that many if these new would be owners have been upset when attempting to purchase guns in heavily regulated states such as California, New Jersey and Illinois, “What do mean I have to what 10 days? I need my gun now”, “I’m not a criminal”. While some of these people may question the gun control they happily supported before thinking it actually applied to them, many will not be similarly inspired.

It is important that as these new shooters seek out training and CPL licensing that we help them understand their new found freedoms and the changes that a Liberal Progressive candidate wants to make to restrict those freedoms.

What follows is the Democratic anti-gun platform and the proposed changes that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want to enforce. These have been spelled out at their Democratic Convention for all the world to see:

  • Ban the manufacture of “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines
  • Mandate NFA registration of all currently owned “assault weapons”
  • Hold a national “buyback” of “assault weapons” for those who don’t want to register their ARs and AKs
  • A national one gun a month purchase limit
  • National universal background checks
  • Reinstate the Obama gun ban for Social Security recipients who seek mental health treatment
  • Ban gun sales to anyone convicted of a “hate crime”
  • Increase the time period the FBI has to make a determination on a NICS check from 3 to 10 days
  • End all online sales of firearms, ammunition, kits, and gun parts
  • A national confiscation program for those who become prohibited persons
  • Incentivize all states to enact “red flag” laws by doling out federal funds
  • Incentivize all states to require that individuals obtain a permit to own firearms before being able to purchase one
  • Prohibit anyone under a temporary restraining order or convicted of assault, battery, or stalking from purchasing or possessing firearms, misdemeanor or felon
  • “Put America on the path to ensuring that 100% of firearms sold in America are smart guns”
  • Enact a national safe storage law
  • Enact a national stolen gun reporting requirement law
  • Ban “ghost guns” by requiring that “purchasers of gun kits or 3D printing code pass a federal background check”
  • Ban the use of federal dollars used to train teachers to carry in the classroom

Never has the Democratic Party been so blatant about their intentions. Previously shrouded in platitudes like “We support the Second Amendment, but…”  it is now out there for all to see and we must get the word out. Right now, there is no better example of why the right to keep and bear arms is so important than what we are seeing enacted each night on the News in Seattle, Portland and Kenosha!
