March 23rd Show

Great Show Saturday! -Show files are now up on the Podcast page

We had Internet callers from Danville, IL and Long Island New York:

John From Danville shared info on  his latest purchase, a Springfield Armory “Range Officer” Model 1911

Range Officer

Bill from Long Island paused to listen to the show on his way to the range. He  expressed concern with all the new regulations facing gun owners in New York.

We discussed with Bill NY Governor Cuomo’s handling of his new 7 round mag limitation and the fact that there are no 7 round mags available for most modern handguns. His is solution to have people “Promise” not to load more than 7 rounds in a ten round mag! I am sure the robbers, home invaders, mass murder’s and rapists will agree to that! Is he counting on honor among thieves?

American Heritage Girls in an air rifle class at Tri-County Sportsmen’s League

In the second segment, Gary Knechtel joined us to talk about American Heritage Girls, a scouting organization for girls. Faith based with strong support for the Outdoors, Patriotism Gary described an Air Rifle program that exposes your girls to the enjoyment of the shooting sports. Gary Also discussed his involvement with the local NRA organization and upcoming events.

Early in the show I mentioned the gross over reaction to firearms in this country and the attempt to demonize guns and gun owners.  In reference to an incident that occurred last week where a young boy was expelled  for biting his “Pop Tart” into the shape of a gun, I jokingly crafted a toaster pastry into a 7.62 Strawberry Assault Pastry with a 30 Sprinkle Mag.  The results of which can be seen below.

Please note that each Assault Pastry contains 205 calories so it should not be long before NY Mayor Bloomberg bans them for being dangerous as well as causing obesity.

We also talked about a father that took a picture of his proud son receiving a .22 Rifle for his 11th Birthday that he posted on his Facebook page prompting a visit from Child Protective Services to investigate a report that a child “may” have access to a gun and ammunition.

The stories  hit close to home when a caller from Chelsea describes a discussion the had with Ed the Chelsea Police Chief.  The “Chief” explained they would have to investigate if they had a similar report and would be justified in trying to determine what wrong with the child. Why did he bite his toaster pastry into the shape of a gun? Was there violence in his past? Is he being abused?

Perhaps the “Chief” can’t remember being a young boy and playing Cops and Robbers, or Cowboys and Indians?

What has happened to common sense in this Country?

P.S. it’s Sunday evening,  just got back from the range. A little cold and windy but was having fun sighting in a Red Dot on an AR at 100 yards and plinking at broken clays in the sand of the backstop. Used two mags that are veterans of Afghanistan,  Fired 60 rounds , boy that feels nice, but rationing the the 5.56 to the bare minimum to stay current.  Then off to the pistol range for a M1895 Nagant revolver action (yes I know it is an ugly gun). Next 50 rounds of .38 Special and 50 rounds or .357 Magnum in the S&W 586, topped off by 250 rounds of .22 on the steel plate racks.

What a fun afternoon!

Till next week, Safe Shooting!
